Stephen Douglas Cheek, Sr., 82, of 2526 Mayfair Dr., Owensboro, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the home of his daughter, Sheila Sanders in Owensboro. He was born April 14, 1926 in E. Chicago, Ill. to the late Orvil T. and Rosa Brown Cheek. He was a member of Fordsville Baptist Church and retired from the General Electric Co. after 33 years. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps. veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Fordsville High School and the National Radio Institute. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club and was a Ky. Colonel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James T. Cheek.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheila Sanders and husband Howard and Nita Cheek Fricker and husband Russell, all of Owensboro, and his son, Steve Cheek of Fordsville, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his longtime friend and companion, Laura Rhodes, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 12:00 Noon Tuesday, August 19, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Fordsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Monday and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
