Stephen L. Calhoun, 57, of Louisville, died Thursday morning, April 23, 2009, after a short illness in the Hospice at Norton Pavilion surrounded by his loving family. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley J. Calhoun of Owensboro. He is survived by his father, Joseph E. "Bill" Calhoun of Owensboro, his step-mother, Mae Powers of Owensboro; his sister, Diane Calhoun-French of Louisville; his uncle, H.J. Rumage, Jr. of West Louisville; aunts, and many cousins.

Steve was a graduate of Bishop David High School in Louisville and the University of Iowa; he also took accounting classes at Jefferson Community College and became a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA). He worked as a civilian procurement officer for the military in Washington, D.C.; in the tax department of the Mathers-Hamilton accounting firm; as Tax Manager for David K. Ahrens, CPA; and later as a self-employed tax professional. Steve achieved the honor of being admitted as a Member of the Bar before the United States Tax Court. He was a member of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants and of the Business Programs Advisory Committee for Jefferson Community College.

Steve was an avid collector of classical music recordings and a lover of animals, particularly cats.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 27, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Curdsville, KY, with inurnment following at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, St. Joseph, KY. Visitation will be 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve's memory to Hospice of Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40205, in gratitude for their merciful and tender care.
