Stefanie Alyss Matthews

March 8, 1986 — April 21, 2012

Stefanie Alyss Matthews, 26, of Owensboro, ended her heroic journey Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System with mom and dad by her side. She was born March 8, 1986 in Owensboro, was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church, and worshipped at Owensboro Christian Church with her parents. Stefanie was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Morgan Matthews and her maternal grandmother, Anna Marie Morgan.

Stefanie was known for her love of everything Disney, especially Tinker Bell, whose spunky spirit and attitude she shared. Most important to Stefanie was her love of people, and to know Stefanie was to love her. Stefanie's hugs, phone calls, wittiness, and caring brightened the lives of people everywhere, even those she had never met in person. Stefanie graduated from Apollo High School in 2006 and returned as a volunteer where for the next 6 years she aided faculty, staff, and students in enjoying life.

Stefanie is survived by her parents, Luke and Cam Matthews of Owensboro, paternal grandparents, Rev. Howard L. and Thelma Matthews of Owensboro, maternal grandfather, Eddie G. Morgan of Glasgow, Aunts and Uncles: Dan and Teresa Matthews of Utica, David and Betty Jane Pettit of Handyville, Rob and Melissa Matthews of Birmingham, AL, Brian and Andrea White of Owensboro, Bob and Pam Strodtbeck of Orlando, FL, and John and June Vaughn of Glasgow. Cousins: Dave and Lauren Pettit, Erin and Brad Cecil, John and Mary Pettit, Sarah and Lee Rudy, Annie Laurie and Adrian Yeiser, Mary Lindsay Matthews, Brittany and Zach Gholson, Charlotte and Justin Heuser, Richard Strodtbeck, Jamieson and Michael Matthews, Morgan and John Paul Vaughn; and many beloved friends.

Services will be 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 24, at Owensboro Christian Church. Private burial and services will follow at Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Owensboro Christian Church.
