SPC. Robert Jason Settle, 25, of Owensboro passed away, Wednesday, April 19, 2006 from injuries suffered when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee during combat operations in Taji, Iraq. Pvt Settle was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas and had been in Iraq for 5 months. He grew up in Mclean County and moved to Owensboro before joining the Army in 2004. He enjoyed NASCAR, paintball, fishing, hunting, and driving 4-wheel and off-road vehicles.
He is survived by a daughter and her mother, Chloe Settle and Sarah Cooper Settle of Owensboro; his father, Robert Barry Settle of Utica; his mother, Sharon Settle of Maceo; a brother, Aaron Settle of Maceo; grandparents, Robert and Joyce Settle and Bill and Marilee Staples of Owensboro, and Bill and Barbara Towery of Maceo; aunts and uncles, Karen Staples and Rhonda Mandrell both of Owensboro, Caleb Towery of Maceo, Rebecca Bean of Lexington, and Mike Settle of Utica; and cousins, Josh Jeffers, Paul Jeffers, Jordan Jeffers, Jakob Jeffers, David Kelly, Matt Kelly, Marissa Mandrell, Lauren Mandrell, Brandi Settle, Ben Settle, and Logan Settle.
Services are 10 A.M. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Glenn Funeral Home followed by entombment in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Friday and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
