Sister Ruth Mattingly, 83, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 62nd year of religious life. She was a native of Loretto.
Sister Ruth was a loyal friend who loved being of service to others, first as a teacher, then in health care and parish ministry. In recent years she enjoyed making baby quilts.
She taught at Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville (1967-72), ministered in personal and pastoral care at the Motherhouse infirmary (1984-91) and was coordinator of the Guest House (1993-96) at Maple Mount. She also ministered elsewhere in Kentucky, Missouri and New Mexico. Her former religious name was Sister Walter Ann Mattingly.
Survivors include her sister, Esther Kraft, of Louisville; two brothers, Walter Mattingly of Louisville and John Mattingly of Lexington; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation begins Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
