Sister Jane Miriam Hancock, 93, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died April 6, 2017, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 75th year of religious life. She was a native of Waverly.
Sister Jane Miriam was always positive about the future, and took great joy in being an educator for more than 50 years. She was always a top seller of raffle tickets each year for the Mount Saint Joseph Picnic to benefit the retired sisters.
She taught at St. Peter of Alcantara School, Stanley (1944-45, 1964-65), Sts. Joseph and Paul (1945-52) and St. Pius Tenth (1965-69) schools, Owensboro, and St. Sebastian School, Calhoun (1952-53). She taught in many other elementary and high schools in Kentucky. After her retirement in 1994, she continued to work as a substitute teacher in the Owensboro Catholic Schools.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Louise Coshan, Ontario, Canada; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
