Simon Bernard Wink Jr. "Junior", age 81, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his daughter's home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. He was born on December 10, 1930 to the late Simon B. Wink Sr. and Thelma Hayden Wink in the community of Browns Valley near St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Aside from his loving parents Simon is preceded in death by his sister; Mary House.
In 1962 at the age of 31, Junior was injured in a farming accident leaving him a paraplegic. He faced this life altering accident with courage and determination with his wife by his side. He enjoyed the next fifty years watching his daughter grow up and begin a new life in Tennessee and welcomed four grandchildren.
After the accident he went to the Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center in Fishersville, Virginia where he learned how to live independently again. During his stay there he relearned to drive a car and studied watch repair. Unable to fulfill his love of farming, he found enjoyment in other pastimes such as cattle and catfish farming, working on his Model T car, quilting, gardening and canning.
Simon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita Hardesty Wink, his daughter; Linda Crutcher of Goodlettsville, TN, and four loving grandchildren; Rachel Crutcher of Cleveland, Ohio and Amy, Andrew and Nicholas Crutcher of Goodlettsville, TN. He is also survived by 1 brother; Maurice Wink (Shirley) of Utica, 5
sisters; Juanita ( Paul) Karlin of Owensboro, Shirley Zoglmann of Owensboro, Geraldine( Mendel) Howard of Elkton, KY, Thelma ( Jimmie) Cecil of Florida and Yvonne Simmons of Utica.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Wednesday, October 17th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Pastor Fr. Mike Clark as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 7:00PM. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday morning from 9:30AM until 11:00AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 261 St. Anthony Road in Brown's Valley.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alive Hospice of Nashville, TN and Hospice of Western Kentucky.
