Silas Albert Barnes

September 30, 1912 — May 25, 2003

Silas A. Si Barnes, 90, of Owensboro, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Vienna, Ill., native retired as a supplier of oil field drilling equipment and had worked in California, Alaska, Kuwait, and Egypt. He was a 27 year member of the Eaton Memorial Baptist Church joining in February 1976; taught the Caleb Sunday Class for nearly 20 years; and was Director of the Brotherhood, a Mission Organization. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva Hamilton Barnes; two sisters, Edith Steinmetz and Elsie Etherton both of Evansville; nine nieces, Sandra Bradley and Charlene Vigue both of Owensboro, Anna Alvey of Shepherdsville, KY, Margaret Bowers of Travelers Rest, SC, Lou Anne Colburn of Elkton, KY, Cecilia Powers of Island, KY, Rowena Remmel of Washington, IN, and Louise Faulkner of St. Charles, MO, Jo Anne Lamar of Poseyville, IN; and one nephew, James Ronald Evans of Hartford and several cousins..

Funeral services are 3 P.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at the Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-8 P.M. on Tuesday, and after 1 P.M. on Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Eaton Memorial Baptist Church.
