Sidney E. Dalton, 77, of Owensboro passed away Monday December 26, 2016 at his home. Sid was born in Ohio County, Kentucky and graduated from Fordsville High School in 1957. He then enrolled in Bowling Green Business University, graduating in accounting in 1961. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a security agent in Japan. After a road trip across the country following his discharge, he accepted a position as an accountant with Vanover Brothers Trucking and Vanover Brothers Livestock Sales. Sid formed with a partner Imperial Construction. After the sale of that company he served as an accountant and consultant with MidAmerica Jet. He was currently an accountant with Lingate Hospitality. Sid was an active member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and for many years had been a teacher of its Open Door Sunday school class. An avid fisherman, he took his daughter on her first fishing trip at the age of 8 months and wrote a poem "Ode to A Fisherman". He was an avid fan of Kentucky Wesleyan College basketball, supporting it as a member of the All American Club, and of University of Kentucky basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Vilene Seaton Dalton and his brother Ollie Carold Dalton.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sandra Vanover Dalton; his daughter Ramona Sharp (Brian) of LaGrange; his sister Mary Ruth Fawcett (John) of Rochelle, IL; his brothers Calvin Dalton (Frances) of Lake Station, IN, Robert Dalton (Sarah) of Reynolds Station, KY, Melvin Dalton (Carmen) of Evansville, and Wendell Dalton of Philpot; his sister-in-law Linda Dalton Turner of Owensboro; five nieces and five nephews.
The funeral service will be 12:00 noon Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial funds of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church or Kentucky Wesleyan College.
