Shirley Ann Wells

Shirley Ann Melton Wells, 90 passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026. The Darlington, South Carolina native was born December 3, 1935, as one of seven children to the late Elwyn Gray Melton and Marie Andrews Melton. Her vivacious personality led her to a life filled with humor, travel, and an ever-growing community of friends and family. Shirley was always thrilled when you called to talk and ended every conversation with “Doll babe, get you some rest.” Wherever Shirley lived her faith led her to be an active member of her local church: Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN, and First Baptist Church in Owensboro, and finally Brentwood Baptist Church of Franklin, TN where she was involved in the Blooming Blessings Flower Ministry.

In addition to her parents, Shirley also was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clifford Wells in 2003 and six of her siblings.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her three children, Donna Flaspoehler (Kenny), Dana Flaspoehler both of Owensboro, Robb Wells (Angela) of Franklin, TN; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren who affectionately called her “Grams”; sister, Peggy Ann Greene of Florence, SC; numerous nieces and nephews. “You have brought my heart greater joy” Psalm 4:7.

The family will celebrate Shirley’s life in a private ceremony in Franklin, TN. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The family also wants to express many thanks to the wonderful staff at Flourish Memory Care, Calumet Trace Senior Living, and her devoted independent care givers.
