Shirley Louise Roby, 95, of Owensboro died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Carmel Home surrounded by her family. She was born in 1917 to the late Vernon and Gertrude Gunnels. Shirley began employment in the 1930's at Kenrad (GE) tube plant. She and her husband William Roby owned and operated King Charles Inn Restaurant for 33 years until their retirement in 1980. They enjoyed entertaining family and friends on weekends at their Pelleville cabin. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William Roby, a son, Daniel Gray Roby, grandson, Kevin Gray Roby, brothers, Joe, Gray, and Bob Gunnels, and a sister, Kay Vance.
Survivors include a daughter, Leah Harrington and her husband, Bob, a daughter-in-law, Judy Roby, grandchildren, Robin and Todd Harrington, Kris (Sally) Roby, Tina (Michael) Edge, Mandy (Matt) Roberts, and great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Anna Elizabeth, Hagan, Will and Miles Edge, Tristan and Kelsea Roby, Gabriel and Dominic Roberts.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday July 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. with prayers at 5:30, and after 9 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
