Shirley Dean Mayfield, 73, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on October 29, 1936 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Lawrence and Laura Belle Bradfield Mayfield. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. after 35 years and was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He had served in the Naval Reserves and was a former member of the Ensor Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed watching U. K. basketball and Nascar, working on cars, boating, waterskiing, and riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. He was a 1955 graduate of Daviess Co. High School where he had been a member of the basketball team serving as their captain.

Surviving are two daughters, Laurie Jump (David Ward, friend) of Owensboro and Susan White (Chad) of Lewisport, four grandchildren, Adam Marlowe and Sarai Marlowe, of Owensboro, Jonathan Snyder and Chloe White, of Lewisport, a step grandchild, Stewart White of Owensboro, a brother, Larry R. Mayfield (Lamone) of Owensboro, 2 Aunts, Hettie Ward and Florence Hunt (who was raised with him like an older sister), and 2 nieces, Sherry Adams of Murray, Beth Bell of Owensboro, and a nephew, Randy Mayfield of Owensboro.

Services will be 12 Noon Monday, October 4 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday and after 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1302 Frederica St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301.
