Shirley Pierce Dukes

Shirley Pierce Dukes, 82, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Rittman, Ohio native was born April 7, 1942, to the late Alex Bratcher, Sr. and Gracie Beatrice Moseley Bratcher. 

 Shirley was employed at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital for 25 years and then retired from Field Packing Company. She loved working puzzles, cooking, and entertaining family. Shirley was a loving and compassionate person and a kind mother and grandmother. She was a member of Metro Pentecostal Church.

 In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Dukes less than three hours prior to her passing. She was also preceded by her first husband, Charles E. Pierce; children, Ricky, Jessie and Lester Pierce and Lisa Sparks; son-in-law, Pete Sparks; and her nine siblings. 

 Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Charles Thomas Pierce (Erma Lee) and Theresa Humphrey (Martin), both of Owensboro; many grandchildren and several great- grandchildren; brothers, Dexter Bratcher (Connie), Raymond Bratcher (Dalene) and Tom Bratcher; sister, Kathy Grant (Perry); and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

 The family would like to offer a special thanks to caregiver Jo Barnett, for dedication and care provided to Mrs. Dukes.
