Shirley Joyce Benton

Shirley Joyce King Benton, 94, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away Monday August 5, 2024, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born December 20, 1929, in Merton, England to the late William and Gladys Irene Hatton King.

She retired from General Telephone Company in Southern California after many years. Shirley was an avid hiker, often hiking the Santa Monica, San Gabriel and Sierra Nevada mountains. She also loved to walk the Bolsa Chica wetlands every morning in Huntington Beach. Shirley was well-traveled, going all over the world, from South, Central, and North America, throughout Europe, and many other destinations.

Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Wally Benton; a son, Stephen Enkeboll; and a brother, Chris King.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susan (Xavier) Durcholz of Newburgh; grandchildren, Branden and Brooke Durcholz, and Taylor Ray Enkeboll; and three nieces in England.

Shirley was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed and forever loved in the hearts of her family.
