Shirley Branson Ambrose, 79, of Philpot, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Slaughters, KY, she was a daughter of the late W.L. and Jettie Wilson Branson. Her father had worked with the L&N Railroad and was in the Merchant Marines so she traveled extensively while growing up. She graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville, IN, after which she moved to Owensboro to work at General Electric. While working in Owensboro, she met her future husband; they married, and raised their family in the Friendship community. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. Her love of cooking meant there was always a meal ready for whoever dropped in. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ambrose was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Branson of Madisonville, KY.
Surviving Mrs. Ambrose are her husband of 59 years, James Ambrose; her daughters, Janet Ambrose of Philpot and Ronda (Daniel) Nelson of Rineyville, KY; her son, Jim Ambrose of Philpot; her grandchildren, Alexandra Williams and MacLaren Williams, both of Rineyville; and her sisters, JoAnn Branson and Karolyn Campbell, both of Evansville.
