Sherry Ann Millay Hurst, 50, of Owensboro, went to be with our Lord Thursday, December 21, 2017 at her parent's home, surrounded by family. A 1986 graduate of Daviess County High School, she was a member of St Pius X Catholic Church. Sherry was retired from the Daviess County Detention Center (DCDC) where she worked as a floor deputy and gained the respect of not only her fellow employees but many of the inmates as well. Some co-workers called her a hero while some inmates called her a soldier. Sherry was a dedicated deputy who found her calling when she went into law enforcement. She was proud of what she did and was appreciated and recognized for her service with a shadow box from the DCDC. In her spare time, Sherry enjoyed boating in her Rinker boat, especially on Cumberland Lake. She also enjoyed barbecuing, vacationing, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Most of all, Sherry was proud to be the mother of two beautiful daughters, Cortney and Bailey Hurst. She always encouraged them to be strong and independent and not to let anyone or anything stand in their way.
Sherry was preceded in death by grandparents, Steve and Frances Basham and Robert and Margaret Millay, and cousins Corey and Austin Millay.
She is survived by daughters, Bailey and Cortney Hurst; a grandchild (on the way), Trevor Allen; her parents, Vincent and Doris Ann Millay; a sister, Christie Millay Campbell (Janssen); nephews, Ethan Clements and Chace Clements (Hailee Bartlett); a great niece, Tinslee Clements; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
