Sheldon G. Hale, 85, of Utica passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Patesville, Kentucky on August 28, 1928 to the late Fred Hale and Anna Hale Haggard.
Mr. Hale was a veteran, having served in the Navy, Army and Merchant Marines.
He retired after more than 25 years as a millwright with the Local #1080. Sheldon "Rudd" enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dogs through the years. Behind a tough exterior, he was a generous and big hearted man. He was often the "life of the party" and was known for his witty sense of humor.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louella Keeton and Helen Mediate; brothers, Charles and Don Hale; and a step-father, Bill Haggard.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra Hall Hale; daughters, Jan Petznick (Tom) of Bowling Green, KY, Shelda Hale (Tom Godell) of Lexington, KY, Patricia Hale of Lexington, KY and Kim Barnett (Ty) of Owensboro; a son, Dan Hale (Tammy) of Owensboro; grandchildren, Joshua and Orion Weill, Jeremy and Justin Lee, Isaac, Jacob Paul, and Rebekah Hale, Aaron, Josiah, Andrew and Sam Douglas, Sarah Vance and Trent and McKenzie Barnett; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dell Cannestro of Lady Lake, FL and Ouida Faye Haycraft of North Carolina; brothers, Eugene "Buggs" Hale (Leva) of Evansville and Norman "Butch" Hale (Kathy) of St. Augustine, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 3 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Kenneth Stone will officiate. Visitation on Wednesday will be from 3-8 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation on Thursday will be from 12-2 PM at the church.
