Shelby J. Mattingly Wells

Shelby J. Mattingly Wells, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, April 12 at Hermitage Healthcare. She was born in Daviess County to the late Herbert Louis and Mary Reynolds Mattingly and attended Owensboro High. 

 Ms. Wells was a dedicated homemaker who loved spending time with family and will be missed by many. She enjoyed sports, especially U.K. Basketball and Atlanta Braves, and sports memorabilia. Shelby even owned a sports card business several years ago. She also attended Jack Meyer’s Beauty College and worked as a hairdresser for a short time.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Mary L. Mattingly, Maxine Turner, Delbert Mattingly and William “Dub” Mattingly.

 Ms. Wells is survived by her children, Janet Roberts of Owensboro, Geary Wells of Knottsville and Terry Wells of Hawesville; grandchildren, Jason Roberts (Katee), Aaron Roberts, Derrick Roberts (Brittany), Casey Pizani, Jessica Kyle and Amy Wells (Jon); twenty great-grandchildren; and former husband of 38 years, David Wells. 

 The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 18 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
