Sharon Lou Tuttle Hermann, 68, of Owensboro died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Wellington Parc. Born in Henderson County on February 15, 1936, Mrs. Hermann was the daughter of the late Walker and Jessica Heppler Tuttle. She was a member of the Blessed Mother Catholic Church and was retired from the Western Kentucky University where she taught English for seven years. She was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School class of 1954, received her Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Evansville, and a Masters degree from Western Ky. University, all after the age of 50.
Following the death of her husband, Jim in 1986, she wrote a series of poetry and short stories to assist her and others through the grief process. The works were published as part of a compendium of recovery work in 1992 called After Loss. Although writing and the English language were among the loves of her life, it was perhaps teaching that most defined Mrs. Hermann later in life. She had a passion for teaching others and felt it was her calling.
Before teaching, Mrs. Hermanns previous work experience included stints as a realtor with Castlen Realty, communications specialist with Pinkerton Tobacco Co., and reporter for the Hartford Herald in Ohio County. She also co-owned the Ann Herbert dress shop in the 1970s with her late husband. In addition to her professional interests, she was an avid traveler and a veracious reader and also enjoyed classical music and theater. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Tuttle of Houston, Tx.
She is survived by three sons, James Tracy Hermann of Palm Springs, CA, Brett B. Hermann of Owensboro, and Jonathan Lee Hermann of Arlington, VA; a daughter, Christina Smith of Escondido, CA; three brothers, Kenneth Tuttle of Corpus Christi, TX, Steve Tuttle of Owensboro, Kevin Coomes of Bowling Green, and Mark Coomes of Henderson; two sisters, Dalarna Breetz of Louisville and Camilla Frey of Owensboro, 1 grandson Jarrett Stites of San Diego, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are noon Thursday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 2-8 P.M. on Wednesday and after 9 A.M. on Thursday. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 5 P.M. on Wednesday.
