Sedalia Birkhead Montgomery, 89 of Owensboro, died Monday March 24, 2003, in Houston, Texas. She was born in McLean County to the late Eben, and Reba Taylor Birkhead. She was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years, a member of the Owensboro Art Guild, an artist, and she attended Brescia College. She retired from the Owensboro Board of Education after 22 years, where she was the food service manager for several years.
Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her husband, James Hayden Montgomery in 1990, three sisters, Julia Veatress Hinds, Anna Ratchel Crutcher, and Rebecca Dowling, and a brother, James Birkhead. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Mielke of Houston,Texas, and Sandra Barlow of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, five grandchildren, Susan Montgomery of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, Janet Doil of Livermore Valley, California, Julie Barlow of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Jason Barlow of Owensboro, and Scott Mielke of Denton, Texas, two sisters, Louise Rafferty of Sorgho, Kentucky, and Janet Birkhead of Owensboro, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. CST at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
