Sarah Martin Purdy, 74, of Smiths Grove, formerly of Owensboro, died February 13, 2015, at the Medical Center of Bowling Green. She was born in Owensboro to the late Benjamin C. and Mary Gilmour Martin, graduated from Indiana University where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and had taught French in the Owensboro Public School System. Sarah was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro, Married Ladies Reading Club, Fleur De Lis Garden Club, Junior League of Owensboro, Hospital Guild, and The Committee. She enjoyed volunteering at the Help Office, was a former member of the Salvation Army Board, and was active with the Presbyterian Woman's Club at Smiths Grove Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Virginia Purdy and her brother, Ben Martin, Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, David Purdy; son Martin Purdy and his wife Brandi Stocksick of West Fargo, ND; daughter, Mary Lindsey and her husband Jeff Brooks; grandson, Logan Lindsey all of Smiths Grove; sisters, Lorine Kieler and her husband Harold and Mary Feland Hoffman and her husband Harmon; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Private entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
