Sarah Johnson Barrass

November 25, 1936 — March 27, 2015

Sarah Johnson Barrass, 78, of Owensboro passed away Friday, March 27 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Owensboro, a daughter of the late J. Sam and Elizabeth Ballantine Johnson, she was a graduate of Owensboro High School and Centre College with degrees in English and Art. She was a draftsperson at Johnson, Depp and Quisenberry for several years before returning to school at then Brescia College and Kentucky Wesleyan College to complete a degree in library science. She retired from the Daviess County School system having served as librarian at Daviess County and Apollo high schools. Mrs. Barrass was an active member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where she was in the Potter's Clay Sunday school class, a member of the Quilters, and volunteered as a server for the Owensboro Lions club. Her other volunteer activities included the Wendell Foster Center and the former Junior Service League. She was also preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth "Toot" Johnson Lightfoot.

Mrs. Barrass is survived by her husband, William Edward Barrass; her daughters Ann Barass Haynes of Owensboro and Elizabeth "Beth" Barrass Hulett and her husband David of Lexington; her grandchildren David Haynes and Sarah Haynes, both of Owensboro and Haley Hulett and Abbey Hulett, both of Lexington; and her sister Nancy Riggs and her husband Ronald of Pocahontas, AK.

The service for Mrs. Barrass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Good Samaritan Fund at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
