Sarah Ellen Taylor Ballard, 83, of Owensboro passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Heartford House. She was born June 5, 1941, in Yelvington, Kentucky, to Ezra Lee Taylor and Hazel Davis Taylor. Sarah was the youngest of five children, all of whom, including her parents, proceded her in death. Her brothers were Deward Taylor, Robert Taylor, Clifford Taylor and her sister Marian King.
Sarah was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church , being baptized one week before her wedding to Glenn. She married John Glenn Ballard on June 21, 1958, and they were married for almost 39 years before Glenn passed away on June 10, 1997.
Sarah worked at several different jobs during her lifetime: sales clerk, waitress, realtor, and medical receptionist but she really worked at being retired. She was active in two Fraternal Organizations, she was a Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, Neith Temple #80, Madisonville, KY and Past Matron of Goel Chapter #104, Order of the Eastern Star, Ensor, KY. She held several offices in both organizations and was proud to be an active and involved member for many years. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Sarah is survived by daughters, Becky (Mike) Hayes, Robin Miller, Melody (Rick) Roberts, Sherry (Jimmy) Hale, and Bonny Lowrie. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
The funeral service for Sarah will be Noon Saturday, February 8, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with private burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff at Cedarhurst of Owensboro, some of whom became her friends, to all the compassionate nurses and volunteers at Hospice of Western Kentucky Heartford House who all went above and beyond to care for Sarah and make her stay as comfortable as possible.
