Sandra Barrett Young

Sandra Barrett Young, 81, of Owensboro died Monday, March 14, 2024, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Sacramento, Kentucky native was born April 10, 1942, to the late Sanders and Frances Barrett. Sandra graduated from Sacramento High School, class of 1960. She graduated with a degree in Nursing from Catherine Spalding College and kept her license active for forty years. She married David Young in 1963 and while he served in the U.S. Navy in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sandra was employed as the English-speaking liaison for the mayor. Returning to Owensboro, she became a full- time homemaker and raised their two sons, Chuck and Barry. Sandra served on the Board of the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club and loved her tennis group and friends in the Garden Club. She was a voracious reader and loved to travel and was able to take a hot-air balloon flight over the Serengeti in Africa.    

 In addition to her parents, Sandra also was preceded in death by a son, Barry Young in 2023. 

 Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 60 years, Dr. David Young and their son, Chuck Young and his wife Jamie of Fishers, Indiana; four grandchildren, Sarah Kathryan Young, MacKenzie Young Joiner (Kyle), Avery Reiter, and Gabe Reiter; cousin, Martha Kurre House.
