Rev. Samuel P. Gish, 80, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Rev. Gish was a minister, and founder of Faith Temple in Owensboro in 1970. He was born in Henderson to the late Dillard and Mattie (Revell) Gish. He had served the Lord since he was 20 years old. After serving under his pastor, the late, Ira T. Hargis, (Little Brick Church) he was led by the Lord to build a parsonage for the pastor on church grounds, and did so. He was a good builder, and could envision plans and the finished building in his mind. He built churches in Jamaica, and other projects, he made several mission trips to Mexico, Phillipines, and Israel. After serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, he returned 50 years later on a mission trip. He was a mentor for other ministers, a "preacher's teacher" and was an ordained Bishop of many pastors in Kentucky. He was compassionate, loving and giving. He will be missed by many.
His wife of 60 years, Betty Sue Gish preceded him in death in April 2010, as well as siblings, Francis Mitchell, Opal Patrick, Kermit Gish, Audrey Pulliam, and Muriel Gish.
