Ryan Nicholas Goetz, 43, of Louisville and Owensboro, lost his long and courageous struggle with mental illness on Saturday March 15, 2025. He was born April 11, 1981, in Owensboro, to Susan Barnett Rice and Larry J. Goetz. Ryan was a 1999 graduate of Apollo High School. He attended OCTC and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Music History.
He was an intelligent and gifted musician who played classical music on the piano and rock music on his favorite Stratocaster and Les Paul electric guitars. Ryan’s favorite composer was Gustav Mahler, leading him to tour Europe and Austria on two occasions where he visited Mahler’s grave. Music was his passion. He worked in the banking business where he was Branch Manager and Fraud Specialist at various banks in Louisville and Owensboro.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy Clark Goetz and William and Jeanette Barnett.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Larry J. (Linda) Goetz and Susan B. (Steven) Rice; his stepbrothers and stepsisters, Scott (Chelsea) Rice, Brian (Alyssa) Rice, Shannon (Fred) Bowen, and Bill (Troy Wells) Bell; aunts and uncles, Barbara Goetz, Beth (Barney) Boothe, Andrew (Janet) Goetz, Jo Anne (Joe) Mason, and Mark (Becky) Barnett; also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. All of Ryan’s family will miss him dearly.
There will be no visitation, and the memorial service will be private for family.
