Mrs. Ruth T. Ruth, 94, of Owensboro, passed away here Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Born May 11, 1916 in Obion County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Julius Tucker and Maude Caldwell Tucker, she retired as the vault custodian of the former Owensboro National Bank and was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church which she joined in 1947. Mrs. Ruth was a United States Women's Army Auxiliary Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a Technical Sergeant in North Africa, where she landed at Algiers on May 11, 1943, her 27th birthday, and later in Italy with the Arno and Rome campaigns. She counted it a privilege and honor to have served her country in the military. Following World War II she married John William Ruth who preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Ruth is survived by her children, John W. Ruth, Jr. and his wife Gwynn of Neptune Beach, Florida, Becky Fergus and her husband Jim of Peachtree City, Georgia, and James M. Ruth and his wife Barbara, of Owensboro; her grandchildren Will Ruth and Michael Ruth of Neptune Beach, Andrea Fergus and Matt Fergus of Peachtree City, Scott Walthall and Jamie Whitehead and her husband Josh, of Owensboro, and Wendi Jones and her husband Chris of Murray.; and her great-grandchildren, Grant Jones, Landon Jones, Connor Whitehead and Tucker Whitehead.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ruth, officiated by Rev. Darren Brandon, will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation with the family will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
