Ruth Roberta Pickering Roberts

Ruth Pickering Roberts, 78, of Owensboro, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at her home in Royal Arms Apartments. Born May 23, 1927 in Lincoln, NE to the late Oscar and Esther Pickering, Mrs. Roberts graduated from College View High School in Lincoln; worked a number of years at General; Electric in Owensboro; and served as church secretary at Parkside Baptist Church in Columbus, IN, as well as Temple Baptist and Pleasant Grove Baptist in Owensboro. She was a member of First Baptist Church; and the Beacon Sunday School Class. She loved her church, her pastors and friends; enjoyed playing games on the computer, traveling especially to the many State and National Parks.She will be missed by her family and her many friends. Also preceding her in death is a brother, Orville Pickering and two sisters, Elva Cole and Rachael Roark.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rev. William S. Roberts; children, Betty Jean and husband Gene Clark, Brenda Stroud and husband Jerry Stroud, all of Owensboro, and Rev. Timothy and wife Kay Roberts of Berea, Ky.; grandchildren, Mark and wife Sandy Higdon and Darrin and wife Tonya Higdon all of Owensboro, Christy and husband Robert Dickerson of Terre Haute, IN, Ronnie and wife Cindy Stroud of Louisville, Allison and husband Jason Brant of Whitesville, Jessica and husband Kenny Kidd of Somerset, and Jeremy Roberts of Berea; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Hackbarth of Iowa Falls, IA and Shirley and husband George Douglas of Lincoln, NE., and a sister-in-law, Doris Pickering of Durham, Ca.

Services are 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 13, 2006 at Glenn Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Strahan and Dr David Nelson officiating followed by burial in the Field of Honor at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday and after 9:00 A.M. on Monday.
