Ruth "Helen" Greenwell, 89, of Owensboro passed away on Monday March 13, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Mrs. Greenwell was born August 3, 1927 in Daviess County to the late William Walter Weise and Virgie Hodgkins Weise. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who loved and cared for her family. She was also a hard worker who would grow, can and cook the food from the garden. Helen loved her flowers and the birds that benefited from her care. She graduated from West Louisville High School and later worked at the GE plant. As her health began to wane, she was a resident of the Carmel Home where the staff called her the sweetest person they knew and loved to hear her sing.
Mrs. Greenwell was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Greenwell in 1999; brother, Tony Weise; sisters, Marie Wathen and Gertrude Mackey.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Ruth Ann Yeckering and husband Mike; sons, Raymond Greenwell and wife Kimberly, Mark Greenwell and wife Sondra, Patrick Greenwell and wife Karon, Don Greenwell and wife Edith, Gary Greenwell; brother, Louis Weise and wife Alice; eleven grandchildren, Kevin Greenwell (Casey), Shelley Hodges, Brian Greenwell (Danielle), Crystal Tallent (Nick), Jamie Greenwell, Charlie Greenwell, Sandra Peak (Jeff), Steffen Greenwell, Tanya Greenwell, Collin Greenwell, Kailey Greenwell; 15 great grandchildren; special niece, Donna Burns and other numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 11:00 AM on Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church with Father Pat Bittel officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with prayers at 6:30 PM and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
