Roy Robbins

December 12, 1931 — February 19, 2012

Roy "Sam" Robbins, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at his home. He was born in Keokee, Virginia to the late Chester and Melvie Robbins.

Sam grew up in the community of Robbins Chapel, Virginia before joining the US Army and serving in the Korean War.

He retired from Langley and Morgan Construction (UMWA) after working for many years in coal mine construction.
Sam was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a part of the Mastermen Sunday School Class.
He loved hunting, fishing, camping, NASCAR Racing, University of Kentucky Basketball, John Wayne movies and spending time with his family.

Sam was preceded in death by a son, Marty Wayne Robbins in 2002; a grandson, Justin Wayne Robbins in 1994 and a brother, Gerald Robbins in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna M. Robbins; sons, Steve Robbins (Lois) of Owensboro, James Robbins (Kelly) of Murfreesboro, TN, Roger Robbins (Dayna) of Owensboro, Keith Robbins (Leisha) of Utica, KY; daughter in law, Susan Robbins Chapman of Owensboro; 8 grandchildren, April Kemplin, Krystal Henning, Brittany Robbins, Coty Horn, Emily Robbins, Brook Robbins, Seth Robbins and Samantha Robbins all of Owensboro; 5 great grandchildren, Gracie Kemplin, Will Kemplin, Jackson Horn, Aidan Henning and Will Henning; a sister, Mary Lou Bowman of Florida and a brother, Jim Robbins of Augusta, Georgia.

The funeral service will be at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. Herschel Morgan will officiate. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday and from 10:00 am until 12 Noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky 3419 Wathens Crossing Owensboro, KY 42301.
