Roy G. Poole, Sr., 77, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born December 15, 1931 to the late Logusta and Coral Poole in Daviess County. He was a member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church and worked with St. Vincent DePaul, and received the Sopha Award for his volunteer work. He served in the US Army forces 164th Infantry, and National Guard during Berlin Crisis and was a member of the VFW, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a Sergeant of Arms on the Labor Counsel Board.
He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Margie Poole, and a sister, Barbara Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley A. Poole of Owensboro; his son, Roy G. Poole, Jr. of Owensboro, his daughter, Mary Lundy and her husband, Hobert of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Jerry (Stephanie) Lundy, Amanda and Brandy Lundy; three great-grandchildren, Danielle and Anna Lundy and Dylan Fricker; a brother, James (Betty) Poole of Philpot; two sisters, Rosie Marsh of Owensboro and Betty Chapman of FL; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery with Military Honors given by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers at 6:30 PM. Visitation after 8:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts.
