Roy Lee Adams Sr, 91, of Owensboro passed away peacefully Friday, September 19, 2025, at Cedarhurst Senior Living. He was born November 9, 1933, in Sharp County, Arkansas, to the late John F. Adams and Cecil Margaret Chacey Adams, and grew up as one of ten siblings. He married the late Catherine Dunlap Adams in 1952. They bravely moved to Evansville, IN, as newlyweds. They settled shortly after in Owensboro, KY for the remainder of their lives.
Roy was an entrepreneur at heart and from a very young age, he began working for himself. He owned two Texaco stations, started one of the first automatic car washes in Owensboro, owned Valley Truck Rental, Adams Motor and Marine Sales and Service, evolving into Adams Motor Sales with Subaru, Saab and IVECO franchises. In his later years, he continued to own and manage Adams Motor Sales selling used cars until 2017.
Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife Catherine in 1991, and his siblings Bettie Reno, John F. Adams Jr., Curtis Adams, Joseph Adams, Ernie Adams, Evelyn Martin ,Paul Adams, and Birdie Rickard. Survivors include his wife of 30 years Doris Myatt Adams, his daughters, LaVillis Gaddis (Scott), Leatrice Richards (Curt) and son Roy Adams Jr. (Carolyn),. Stepchildren Donna Robertson, Roger Myatt (Debbie), Ricky Myatt (Terry), Keith Myatt (Paul Ordroniec) and his brother Charles Adams. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many well-loved step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roy was a devout Christian and a loyal member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church for over 65 years where he served as a deacon.
The family thanks the staff of Cedarhurst Senior Living and Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Kentucky for their caring attention to our dad that allowed him to maintain his dignity and pass peacefully.
Arrangements for visitation and services will be held on Tuesday September 23, 2025 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
