Ross Eden Jewell

Ross Eden Jewell, 65, of Owensboro passed away Friday, October 13th, 2023. Born July 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Frank Everett and Dolores (Haulk) Jewell, he was the youngest of four siblings, Jeffrey, Penny and his late sister Peggy. He was happily married for 44 years to wife, Alice (Cambron) Jewell, with whom he shared many adventures, but would consider his greatest adventure raising his twin girls, Melissa Payne (Kevin) and Cambron Elsey (Elliott).

Ross proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years where he was a chief in Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 (NMCB5). Following his retirement, Ross obtained a degree in Computer Information Sciences and worked at Unilever as a maintenance planner. In his spare time, Ross passionately devoted his efforts in assisting disabled veterans to ensure they received the benefits earned in service. He spent countless hours with active duty and veteran military and developed loving friendships with so many in his community, creating an extended family for himself, his wife, and girls.

He also loved tinkering on various projects, including stained glass and things around the home. Ross had an entrepreneurial spirit and was never without a new idea to dig into and pursue.

While Ross was dedicated to constantly learning new skills and using his mind, his life’s joy was his family. From the day he welcomed his first nieces and nephews, to the moment he held his daughters, he found true happiness in caring for those he loved. Ross celebrated many occasions with his brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick Cambron, Jonnie Cambron, the late Jamie Cambron, Carl Erickson, Gina Hardesty, Jeff and Alicia Millay, and Teresa and Lee Mitchell; his late mother-in-law, Alicia Ashby; and late father-in law, Earl Mack Cambron and wife Nina. He loved his brother, sisters and his 22 nieces and nephews fiercely, but his heart truly belonged to his grandchildren, Scarlett (11), Odin (9), and Wylder (3) Payne and his 8-month-old granddaughter, Harriet (Hattie) Elsey. As a “Pop Pop” he lived to create ultimate childhood experiences for his grandchildren and was focused on finding ways to make them smile. Ross always knew how to meet the needs of those he loved before they knew their needs themselves and his legacy will live on in the many memories he left with his family.

The family will host a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 20th at the VFW Post 696.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Amvets Post 119, 1400 Triplett Street, Owensboro, KY 42303.
