Ronald Brooks White

Ronald Brooks White, 81, of Alexandria, VA passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at his home in Port Charlotte, FL. Born in Whitesville, KY, the son of the late Willis Ronald and Nina Bell White, Mr. White graduated from Owensboro High School. He worked at Green River Rural Electric as a lineman, pilot, and head engineer while attending Georgia Tech on a cooperative program, from which he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1957 and a master's degree in 1971. On January 19, 1958, at Hopewell Baptist Church, he married Dorothy Louise Sublett, daughter of the late Kenneth and Louise Sublett. Drafted into the United State Army, he served at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Following his discharge he continued with the Army Research and Development Center at Ft. Belvoir, and briefly at the Pentagon, retiring after 33 years of service. Following his retirement he traveled the world working at embassies with the U.S. Department of State.

His greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren. For the past 20 years, much of his time was spent in North Carolina with his son, building marinas and memories. Having raised his family in Alexandria, VA, he enjoyed the last year living between there and his new home in southwest Florida.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Louise White; his son Ronald Duane White and his wife Macon Medlin White, his daughters Donna Louise Nuckols and her husband Rick Nuckols and Debbie Lynn Sells and her husband Harrison Sells; his grandchildren Jerry Allen Sanders, Jr., Jacob Andrew Sanders, and Jordyn Alexandra Sells; his sisters Shirley Thurmond and her husband Rev. James Thurmond and Sandra Gossert and her husband Ted Gossert.

The funeral service for Mr. White will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
