Dr. Ronald McKinley King, 70, of Owensboro passed away December 9 at his home. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, a child of the late Dr. and Mrs. McKinley C. King, he received a B.S. in Biology from Morgan State College where he became part of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He earned his M.D. from Meharry Medical College in 1971 where he then served a rotating internship, followed by service in adult psychiatry at George Hubbard Hospital, Nashville and children's psychiatry at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His professional career included the positions of medical director of the River Region MH-MR Board of the Shawnee Center, Louisville; Associate Staff Member of Our Lady of Peace Hospital, Louisville; medical director of North Central Comprehensive Care Center, Elizabethtown; psychiatrist with Seven Counties Services, Louisville, medical director of Rivendell Children's Hospital, Bowling Green; staff psychiatrist with the Green River Regional MH/MR Board at the Morehead Center, Owensboro; and in private practice in Louisville and Owensboro. Dr. King served as Chief of Staff, Psychiatry for Owensboro Medical Health Systems. His was a member of the American Holistic Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Kentucky Medical Association and the Daviess County Medical Association. Dr. King was a key witness to the House Subcommittee on Health and Welfare of the Kentucky House of Representatives regarding Alternative medicine. Dr. King had served in the United States Army Reserve. His interests included reading, fishing, yoga, and chalk drawing.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda King of Hurst, TX; his sister, Sylvia King Robinson of Pittsburgh, PA; a niece, Lynne Robinson Phillips; nephews, Edward and Stephen Robinson and many beloved friends.
The funeral service for Dr. King, officiated by Rev. John Morse, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 12:00 noon Saturday until the time of service.
