Roger Dale Smith

Roger Dale Smith, 76, of Owensboro, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday January 21, 2025, at Wellington Parc. He was born May 16, 1948, in Parkersburg, WV to the late Paul and Charlotte McClung Smith. He was adored by his community here in Owensboro for 40 plus years. He was an accomplished musician and felt that was his calling in life, member the worship band at Owensboro Christian Church for 28 years praising the Lord, and playing at Goldie’s Best Little Opry House for 10 years. He met his wife, Myrna, and they started Apollo Hair Replacement and ran House of Hair together where he loved his work family as his own and enjoyed the special times listening to his clients. Roger enjoyed traveling and had a passion for playing golf with his close friends.

Family was most important to Roger, spending it with them and his grandchildren was very dear to his heart. Most of all, Roger loved Jesus the most and always enjoyed sharing the gospel.

Roger is survived by his wife of 40 years, Myrna Thompson Smith; children, Randy (Stephanie) Hayden, Russ (Jamie) Hayden, Julia (Craig) Tennant, Denise Smith, Chad Smith, and Adam (Stephanie) Smith; grandchildren, Travis, Nathan, Emily, Asher, Levon, Bailee, Warren, Landen, Brooklyn, Brianna, John, Wesley, and Emma; a great-grandchild, Bentley; a sister, Rocki (John) Louden; an aunt, Sharon (Joe) Lockhart; and a very special caregiver, Charlotte Gipson who was an angel to him and his family as they navigated through his illness.

The funeral service for Roger Smith will be at 12 p.m. Saturday January 25, 2025, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday all at the funeral home.
