Roberta "Birdie" Johnson

Roberta "Birdie" Johnson, 67, of Owensboro went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, January 28, 2018 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Mrs. Johnson was born February 4, 1950 in Daviess County to the late Hershel and Pauline McCarty Davis. Roberta was of the Methodist faith. She was called "Birdie" by her friends for the last forty years and loved spending time with them and her family.
Birdie also was preceded in death by a still born son, Jeffrey, in 1970 and another precious son, Jason, in August of 1974.
Roberta was raised in the Maceo area and attended Maceo Elemetary School, then Daviess County Middle School, and then graduated from Daviess County High School in 1968. Birdie worked at National Linen Service in the administrative field for about 25 years until the plant closed in 2005. She also worked in the accounting department with the Messenger-Inquirer for a couple years. Broadening her horizons, she opened Birdie's Auction House in Whitesville, worked at JoAnn Fabrics of Owensboro, and was a food demo specialist at Sam's Club. Many remember her well as the person who never met a stranger and enjoyed working with and meeting so many different people.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Payne of Owensboro; brothers, Phillip Davis and wife Karen of Columbus, Ohio and Robert (Bob) Davis and wife Joyce of Owensboro and; sister, Karen Davis Maxson and companion Walter Spears of Texas; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Birdie's life will be 2:00 pm Friday February 2, 2018 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Paul Gatewood officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 until 7pm and Friday after noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
