Robert J. Whitmer

Robert J. "Bob" Whitmer, 82, of Owensboro, died Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born October 12, 1927 to the late Charles and Eura Noffsinger Whitmer in Muhlenberg County. Bob graduated from Owensboro High School, attended Lindsey Wilson College and graduated from Western Kentucky University. He served his country in the Army right after WW II. He retired from Green River Steel, having served as the general superintendent. He was an active member of the Masonville United Methodist Church. Bob was a Mason and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rev. Deborah Whitmer in 2002, a brother, Charles Whitmer, two sisters, Anna Sue Whitmer and Mary Helen Mayes.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lorene Whitmer; two daughters, Nancy Whitmer of Owensboro, and Shelley Bailey and her husband, Tom of Barkhamsted, CT; two grandchildren, Evan Bailey and Erick Bailey; one sister, Alma Martin of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, with entombment to follow.
