As always, Command Sergeant Major Robert S. Bob Taylor, of 2527 Lawrin Court, Owensboro, obeyed his last order. His Lord Jesus called him home on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at age 76. He was born April 10, 1931, to the late Elza and Anna Stephens Taylor in Daviess County. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and was retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service. He served most of his time with the Air Borne Rangers, or Special Weapons Units.
He was awarded 30 metals and 6 badges. He was an expert with every weapon the infantry had at the time. He fought in 13 major battle campaigns, four in Korea, and nine in VietNam. At times his extra duties were to teach Martial Arts, Chemical, Biological and Jungle Warfare, and destruction of certain types of Special Weapons. He was an expert on all these.
His hardest duties were escorting his comrades bodies back home, or notifing the next of kin that their loved ones had been killed. He graduated second in his class of over 400 from the U.S. Army Sergeant Majors Academy, and was a candidate for Command Sergeant Major of the Army.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anna Jean Taylor; two brothers, E.O. Taylor, Jr. and Joseph Joe Taylor, his sister, Marion G. Bowskill.
Survivors include his most wonderful wife and caretaker, Angelita Taylor; his daughters, Monica Stone, and her husband, Garry, of Reynolds Station, Ashley Taylor, of Owensboro; his sons, Robert S. Taylor, II, and his wife, Beverly, of Bowling Green, Joel Taylor, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Owensboro; two granddaughters, Christa Sosh and Madi N. Stone; two grandsons, Damian and Shaun Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Hayes; one brother, Gene Taylor, and his wife, Eula, of Lewisport; and two special friends, Casey, and Cameron Caddell.
Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers at 5:30 PM. Visitation will be after 9:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be held following the service.
