His paternal grandfather was Robert W. Slack, former Circuit Court Judge. The Slacks were a pioneer Kentucky family, having come from old Fort Harrod in the 1770’s. Through the Weddings he is a direct descendant of Ethan Allen, a Revolutionary War freedom fighter. The Weddings were early settlers of Ohio County.

He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Brescia basketball teams since the beginning of the varsity programs, and was a charter member of the Booster Club. Robert served as Alumni Representative on the Brescia Board of Trustees, was a charter member of the Athletic Advisory Committee, and a past member of the Alumni Association Board. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports games when they were young.
Robert also enjoyed going to the casino, horse racing, watching movies and TV, reading, hobbies, and was a trivia buff. He was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed following nearly all sports. He enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends, shooting pool, and was formerly an above average league bowler. Other interests included the genealogy of the Slack, Wedding, and Weaver families, the history of the United States and the State of Kentucky.
