Robert Leo "Bob" Schell, 74, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on March 4, 1939 in Daviess Co. to the late Simon J. and Lucy Wink Schell. Bob was retired from W. R. Grace and Daramic Companies and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Connor Council #6101 and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Owensboro Assembly #2074. He has served on the Lourdes Cooking Team for a number of years where he oversaw the mutton cooking and they had won several 1st place ribbons at the Bar-Be-Que Festival. Bob had also worked at the former Short Brothers Chevrolet as a mechanic back in the 1960's. He and his wife were members of the Right To Life of Owensboro, and he was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Moose Lodge, and the Daviess Co. Fish and Game Assoc. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, camping, and raising a garden every year. Some of his vegetables won ribbons at the Daviess Co. Fair. Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren and all his animals that he raised and was an avid birdwatcher. Bob was a person who loved people and never met a stranger.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Mark Schell in June of 1987, a brother, Herman Joseph Schell in July of 2004, and a sister, Agnes Marie Thomas in June of 2004.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Judith Williams "Judy" Schell, seven sons, Robert E. (Loretta) Schell, John C. (Rhonda) Schell, and Stephen M. Schell, all of Owensboro, Timothy A. (Dee Dee) Schell of Beaver Dam, Ron (Tennille) Schell of Evansville, and Patrick C. and Joseph A. Schell, both of Whitesville, four daughters, Debbie J. (Ardell) Neal of Livermore, Lisa Katherine (Rev. Alvin) Keown of Madisonville, Mary E. Schell of Calhoun, and Pamela Marie (Kevin) Graden of Lacon, IL, 19 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, James E. Schell of Maceo and Eugene W. Schell of Rome, and a sister, Mildred Ann Phillips of Vine Grove.
Services will be 12 Noon Thursday, April 25, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with burial following in St. Anthony Cemetery in Browns Valley. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday with prayers at 5:00 P.M. and after 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
