Robert Clifford Riney

January 17, 1929 — April 13, 2014

Robert C. Riney, Jr., 85 of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on January 17, 1929 in West Louisville, KY to the late Robert Clifford Riney and Frances Harriet (Hattie) Clark Riney. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Rome, KY. Mr. Riney was retired from the Daviess Co. Court System, and also had worked at Pinkerton Tobacco Co. and had engaged in farming. Gardening was a favorite past time, and he especially took pride in his ability to grow the biggest watermelons in Daviess County. He was an avid fan and follower of Johnny Cash. He served his country in the U. S. Army while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and previous member of the American Legion. He loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Mary Joyce (Hayden) Riney, also by his brother, James Henry Riney, brothers-in-law, Laverne Warren, Christopher Murphy, Doug Clark, and Jim White, sisters, Rosita Warren, Louise Clark, Imogene Murphy, and a sister-in-law, Pat Riney. Finally, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert A. Bickett.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Martha Drochter Goff Riney, his daughters, Diane Bickett and her fianc Gregory Beard of Owensboro, Brenda K. Holinde and her husband Shane Holinde of Bowling Green, and Brenda McCarty and her husband Mike McCarty of Beech Grove, grandchildren, Brad Bickett and his wife Jessie of Henderson, Dana Bickett of Nashville, TN, Ben McCarty of Beech Grove, and Nora Holinde of Bowling Green, his sisters, Victoria (Toie) White, Marilyn (Jim) Kurz, Bernice (Herb) Bertke, a sister-in-law, Doris Riney, and a brother, Thomas B. Riney.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 16 at St. Martin Catholic Church with burial following in St. Raphael Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday with prayers at 5:00 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
