Robert Reid, Jr. 87, of Owensboro died Friday, February 4, 2005 at his home. Born in Daviess County, KY, a son of the late Robert and Katherine Keeley Reid, Mr. Reid graduated from Daviess County High School and attended Western Kentucky University, where he played basketball. Mr. Reid retired from farming in 1982, having been actively involved in fruit and vegetable production. He served on the Daviess County Board of Education for 24 years, from 1946 to 1970, and as chairman from 1955 until 1965. During his tenure, Mr. Reid was involved in the consolidation of Daviess County High Schools, the construction of the Masonville, Highland, Tamarack grade schools and Apollo High Schools. Mr. Reid was strongly in support of establishing football at Daviess County High School in 1954 and was among the program's most ardent supporters. The Daviess County High School football stadium was named for him in 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Josey Reid, two step-sons, Dennis Duke of Owensboro and Bill Duke, Jr. of Charleston, SC, a step-daughter, Marian Turley of Owensboro, two sisters, Katherine Reid Cox and Mary Reid Roberts, both of Owensboro, a brother, John Reid of Owensboro, 10 step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
