Robert A. Philpot

Robert A. Philpot, 84, of Owensboro died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Wellington Parc. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late Harvey and Rose Burton Philpot, he graduated from Whitesville High School and attended the University of Kentucky where he received an associate degree in agriculture. Mr. Philpot was with Commonwealth Life Insurance for 35 years, having served as agent, assistant manager, and manager, and retired from the home office as director of conservation. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he had been a deacon and usher. Bob loved all sports and played high school basketball, industrial league basketball, softball, and baseball, and was an avid golfer. He was a big fan of University of Kentucky basketball and watched their games faithfully.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audileen Huff Philpot; his son, Allen Lee Philpot of Louisville; his daughters, Gale Bryant and Bonnie Phillips and her husband Barry, all of Owensboro; 8 grandchildren, Jason Jones, Michelle Tapp, Meredith Chaffin, Nate Phillips, Kendell Tong, Andrea David, Keith Philpot, and Leslie Philpot; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his brother, Floyd C. Philpot of Owensboro; his double cousin, Maurice Burton of Owensboro; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was also preceded in death in 1991 by a granddaughter, Nicole Lee Jones.

Services, officiated by Dr. Paul Strahan, Dr. David Nelson, and Rev. Clarence Nemitz, are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
