Robert Hoyt Phillips, 87, of Owensboro died Monday, July 12, 2004 at his home. Born October 7, 1916 in Calloway County, Mr. Phillips was retired from National Aluminum where he was a Roll Mill Operator. He was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Murray, KY; Masonic Lodge #130 F&AM; Scottish Rite, Valley of Detroit, MI; and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and watching the Atlanta Braves. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents James Wiley and Lydia Ann Morton Phillips, a son, Jerry Phillips, a sister, Annie Phillips Lassiter and a brother, Joseph Elmus Phillips..
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Glover Phillips; a daughter, Cynthia Ann Phillips of Owensboro; 3 sons, James Hoyt Phillips of Denton, MD, Jackie Dwight Phillips of Walterboro, SC, and Joseph Keith Phillips of Hartford; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Nance of Murray, KY and Estelle Howe of Norwalk, OH; a brother-in-law, Paul Lassiter of Murray, KY, a sister-in-law, Inis Phillips of Columbia, KY; several nieces & nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004 at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday with Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
