Robert H. Payne

Robert H. Payne, 82, of 116 E. 19th Street, Owensboro, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at his home. Born in Daviess County, Kentucky on January 3, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles Oscar Payne and Bernice Hamilton Payne. His wife, Ruth Gomer Payne, preceded him in death in Dec. 24, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Hamilton Kline on February 25, 2001.

Mr. Payne retired as a heavy equipment operator for Morris Bros. Coal Co. after 15 years. He served in the Army during WWII. Mr. Payne, was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro and enjoyed boating and NASCAR.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan Bamberger and Marilyn Rose, both of Owensboro, and Patsy Graf of Rockport, IN., nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Payne and William M. Payne, both of Owensboro; a sister, Lorena Sublett of Tulsa, Okla.; and several nephews and nieces.

The funeral service for Mr. Payne will be at noon Thursday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church officiated by Father Freddie Byrd. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
