Robert "Bob" Roscoe Mingus Jr, 84, of Owensboro passed away suddenly Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mr. Mingus was born July 11, 1932 in Breckenridge County to the late Roscoe and Betty Hall Mingus. Bob was devoted to his family and his Baptist faith and performed missions work through Oneida Baptist College. He served at Cloverport Baptist Church, Hall Street Baptist Church, and most recently attended Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Mingus was a journeyman carpenter and was employed and retired from the aluminum manufacturing business after 40 years. Bob was a Navy veteran who served as a Quarter Master 3rd Class during the Korean War. He was also proud of being a Mason since 1960. Bob was extremely talented in woodworking and loved raising beagle hounds, hunting, and UK basketball. Mr. Mingus served his community on the Cloverport City Council, was named Cloverport "Man of the Year" and Breckinridge County "Citizen of the Week".
Mr. Mingus also was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine White Mingus in 2004; daughter, Pamela Sue Mingus; son-in-law, John W. Tullis; brother, Charles Mingus; sisters, Norma Jean Kerekes, Mabel Miller, and Anna Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Schroader Chancellor Mingus; sons, Gary Mingus and wife Sherrie of Friendsville, Tennessee, and Jimmy Mingus; daughter, Lisa Mingus-Tullis; step-son, Tom Hagerman and wife Karen; step-daughters, Karen Lagadinos and husband Charlie, Janet Jones and husband Stuart all of Owensboro; brothers, Merle Mingus and wife Barbara, Edward "Donnie" Mingus; sisters, Virginia Heina and Mary Jo Carter; granddaughters, Janelle and Charlene Mingus; step-grandchildren, Scott Hagerman, Shannon Wells, Jeremy Jones, Derek Jones, Jeff Ramsay, and Eva Tullis; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends.
The service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday September 6 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Travis Farris officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 and Tuesday from 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at Cloverport Cemetery.
