Robert Austin Meythaler

Robert Austin Meythaler, 19, of Owensboro, Kentucky died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at the Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. The son of Teri Austin and Robert Virgil Meythaler of Owensboro, he was born March 1, 1982, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mr. Meythaler was Valedictorian of the class of 2000 of Owensboro High School, where he had been a four-year soccer letterman, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and the Interact Club. Additionally, he had been selected for Whos Who Among High School Students and Whos Who Among High School Athletes. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a freshman pre-med student at Furman Univiersity in Greenville, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and had been preparing to work as student volunteer at the Kosair Childrens Hospital cancer unit.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Nicholas Velde Meythaler and Bradford Scott Meythaler, and his grandparents, Darrel and Shirley Austin and Virgil and Carol Meythaler, all of Owensboro.

The family will receive friends at the Glenn Funeral Home from noon until 8 P.M. Saturday and from noon until 1:30 P.M. Sunday. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Todd Love, Rev. Tom Grieb, and Rev. Deron Boyer officiating. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001 in McAlister Auditorium on the Furman Univiersity Campus.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Robert Austin Meythaler Scholarship Fund C/O Owensboro High School, The Goodfellows Club, The Boulware Center, or Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
