Robert E. "Gene" Mattingly, 64 of Louisville, died suddenly at his home, Monday, November 5, 2012. Gene was born in Owensboro to the late Vincent and Flo (Millay) Mattingly. He attended Brescia College and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He began working for Western Kentucky Gas Company in September 1971 and worked for Atmos Energy after they purchased the company until his retirement in 2004. He was Vice President of Marketing and at retirement was Vice President of Gas Supply, and was an Atmos Spirit Facilitator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Trodglen, and a sister, Shirley Sharp.
Gene was a kind, loving, caring man who was devoted to his loving wife of 30 years, Karen. He loved his family and loved to entertain and help others. He was a great story teller and had a great sense of humor. He was president of his homeowners association in Louisville, and was very involved in the Derby City Newcomers and Neighbors Club. He was a gourmet cook, gardener and home decorator and an animal lover, especially cherishing his cats, Molly and Brady.
Surviving is his wife, Karen A (Field) Mattingly of Louisville, sisters, Janice (Marvin ) Clark of Sorgho, Ky, Deanna (Joe) Mills, Lois (Lynn) Gary, both of Owensboro, brothers, Michael (Sondra) Mattingly of California, and Perry Mattingly of Marion, IL, brother-in-law Larry (Linda) Field of Philpot, and sister-in-law Jan (Don) Crask, of Owensboro, a daughter Laura Hite and a son, Daniel Mattingly both of Bowling Green, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes with Rev Tony Jones officiating, with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 7:30 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Friday before services.
