Robert "Tom" Kitchens, 71, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, November 26 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mr. Kitchens was born July 6, 1945 in Daviess County to the late Robert and Vera (Haven) Kitchens. Tom served as a Marine in Viet Nam and a Drill Sargent. After being honorable discharged, he worked several jobs before getting hired as an underground coal miner. Tom loved to mow grass, hunt, fish and play cards (especially poker), but mostly he loved his grandchildren.
Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Kitchens in 1970; a daughter, Amy Kitchens; sister Shirley Nash.
Survivors include his son, Ron Kitchens of Owensboro; daughter, Jennifer Szemethy and husband Steve of Whitesville; granddaughter, Amber Renee Szemethy; grandson, Hunter Thomas Szemethy; sister, Diane Barnett.
